SPRAVATO® Treatment for Depression
Sometimes therapy and medication alone are not the whole story. For some individuals,SPRAVATO® can help create enough relief or openness for deeper therapeutic work to become possible again. Our role is not simply to administer treatment, but to provide thoughtful, compassionate support throughout the process.
Sometimes depression persists even after trying therapy, medication, lifestyle changes, or doing “everything right.” When that happens, it can feel discouraging and exhausting—especially when you’ve been carrying the weight of depression for a long time.
SPRAVATO® (esketamine) is an FDA-approved treatment designed for adults living with treatment-resistant depression. Unlike traditional antidepressants, which can take weeks to begin working, SPRAVATO® works differently in the brain and may help some people experience relief more quickly.
At Amber Counseling, we offer SPRAVATO® treatment in a supportive, medically monitored environment where your safety, comfort, and emotional experience are prioritized throughout the process.
What is SPRAVATO®?
SPRAVATO® is a prescription nasal spray derived from ketamine. It is FDA-approved for:
Treatment-resistant depression (TRD) in adults
Depressive symptoms in adults with major depressive disorder and acute suicidal thoughts or behaviors, when used alongside an oral antidepressant
SPRAVATO® is not taken at home. Because it is part of a specialized safety program called Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS), treatment must occur in a certified medical setting under supervision. Our clients are monitored for at least two hours after each treatment session.
What does treatment look like?
Treatment sessions take place in our office in a calm, supportive setting.
During your appointment:
You will self-administer the nasal spray under medical supervision
You’ll spend time resting and being monitored afterward
Some people bring headphones, calming music, or a blanket/comfort item to help them relax during the experience
Because SPRAVATO® can temporarily affect alertness and coordination, you’ll need someone to drive you home afterward
Experiences during treatment vary. Some people notice feelings of relaxation, emotional openness, mild dissociation, or fatigue during the session. These effects are temporary and are monitored closely by your provider team.
